Tierney Thys , PhdDr. Tierney Thys is a Research Associate at the California Academy of Science, a filmmaker, a marine biologist and National Geographic Explorer. Her work bridges the worlds of primary research and science communication to promote environmental understanding and stewardship. Dr. Thys is an award-winning filmmaker, frequent contributor to TEDed, and serves on the advisory boards of the Wildscreen Trust, TED Red Circle and Think Beyond Plastic and editorial board for the Journal of Animal Sentience.

Brett HobsonBrett W. Hobson is a senior ocean engineer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute where he develops long endurance robots for ocean science applications. Mr. Hobson has lead expeditions from the tropics all the way up to polar seas. Previously, Mr. Hobson helped start Nekton Research to develop bio-inspired robots for the US Navy. He started his career at Deep Ocean Engineering, then left with one of the founders to help run Deep Sea Discoveries, a company looking for valuable deep water shipwrecks offshore Florida, Venezuela, Spain and the Philippines.

Peter Etnoyer, PhdDr. Etnoyer is a deep-sea biologist, specializing in the taxonomy and ecology of deep-sea corals. He serves as a lead for the Deep-Sea Coral Ecology Laboratory (DCEL) in the Biogeography Branch at NOAA's National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS). He also serves as an adjunct professor for two master's degree programs at College of Charleston, conducting benthic surveys of deep-sea habitats throughout the Northeast Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, and Atlantic.

Lance Morgan, PhdDr. Lance Morgan is the president of Marine Conservation Institute. A marine biologist focusing on marine invertebrates, he obtained his PhD from UC Davis, and has explored the ocean as a SCUBA diver, aquanaut and submersible pilot. He currently serves as Board Chairman for the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition, and holds a research faculty appointment at Bodega Marine Laboratory. He is a member of the Blue Parks Science Council, the steering committee of the High Seas Alliance and a member of Mission Blue’s Hope Spot Science Council.
