MARE's Deep Sea Engineering Challenge offers a hands-on, applied STEM learning experience to high school aged students to solve a real-life scientific problem. Students will be introduced to factors of ocean health and how it is being used to solve our worlds ocean’s problems.
MARE's Executive Director, Dirk Rosen, introducing the Challenge
The Challenge will offer many opportunities including:
- Offer a hands-on, applied learning experience to local high school aged students using technology to solve a scientific question;
- Expose students to elements of ocean health and possible technology solutions for ocean science and conservation;
- Encourage pursuit of STEM education and related post-collegiate career through exposure to and awareness of marine technology, and how it is being used to solve our worlds ocean’s problems;
- Solve some of our own engineering challenges with new perspectives and approaches.
- And develop strategy for expanding program to other Bay Area schools.
Help MARE encourage STEM pathways for the next generation by volunteering or donating for the inaugural Deep Sea Engineering Challenge: Corals & Carousels 2020! We are seeking volunteers with engineering experience to serve as mentors or day-of challenge. As well as event support through gifts and donations.
